A Basketball Diary for Chris

Warning ... proud mom about to shamelessly brag on her son here.  haha.  This weekend, Christopher finished up his first basketball season.  It was a brief one, only for 6 weeks.  But in that time, he learned a lot about the game, had fun, and helped his team finish with a 5-1 season.  Not bad for starters!! Now he wants to go hang out with his friends in the neighborhood and shoot some hoops.  You go, little man.  Well, that is until it's time to go to baseball practice.  (Yes, it's that time again!!)

Have a great Monday!  -- S

A New Look

It was time.  Time for a change, a fresh new look.  I've been wanting to update my website for quite a while now, and I've been pretty busy restructuring and redesigning it.  Actually, it's been a fun project, but I admit a little all consuming.  No, I haven't blogged, I haven't caught up on other projects, and I haven't even been taking many pictures.  But it's all done, and I'm excited to show it off.  So ... ta da!!! Here's the link to my new website ... check it out!

Have a great weekend!  -- S

Rockin' Out On My Birthday

It was a gorgeous Saturday night in Round Rock.  Beautiful weather, and a perfect night for live music.  And ... it was my birthday!  What a fun way to celebrate the day.  Saturday night, my daughters performed on stage with their three bands -- On Target, Chaotic 8, and Speed Limit 180.  Yes, I said three ... my life is just a little crazy.

We had a great crowd and lots of smiling faces enjoying the music.  On Target opened for Chaotic 8, who opened for Speed Limit 180.  Annie switches instruments with every band, from bass guitar, to keyboard, to rhythm guitar.  In the past, Kate has switched from drums to keyboard in the latter two bands, but this time she played the drums exclusively and also had the chance to come out and sing some lead vocals.

It's so incredible to hear these kids play music at the level that they do.  Particularly in the case of Speed Limit 180, it is sometimes difficult to remember that these kids are only range in age between 11 and 16.  Check out the video links below to see for yourself!

Here are my favorite images from our musical night.  And much thanks, to all these wonderfully talented musicians for making my birthday a special one.   -- S

Loved the lighting on Marley's face in this one.  On bass guitar with Speed Limit 180.

I really like the night performances during this season. The lighting!

Photo Walking in the Austin Warehouse District

It was a gorgeous day in Austin. With the weather as cold as it's been, it was certainly a nice break to have a day that was not so cold! It was a great opportunity for a photo walk with Kelly and Marisa in the Austin Warehouse District.

I love shooting there. So many urban settings and interesting backgrounds. Marisa is a photojournalism student and has been studying photography for some time. Since she's going to be assisting me in some of my upcoming photo sessions, we thought we'd get some time in for her to get familiar with my camera and my lenses. Her friend Kelly was nice enough to be our model for the day. Gorgeous day, two cameras, a fun model and a few hours in the sun = photography heaven! Here are some my favorite images from our session!

Have a great evening! -- S

Love Kelly's expression in this one!

I've shot from this angle before, but not with someone positioned behind this.  I thought it might be cool framing to have Kelly pose behind this structure.  Love Marisa's shot of this!

I love playing with sun flare pics!

Rock on, Kelly!  Yay .... air guitar in front of Antone's!  :)  So, while I really love all these pics we both took, this next one is also a new fave.  Yes, we photographers will do just about anything to get the shot ...  :).

Wedding Bells in Round Rock: Jaclyn and Daniel

As a photographer, I like to shoot a variety of things.  I enjoy shooting weddings, and part of my photography training involved working with mentors who are wedding photographers.  But with three kids at home, it's not something I can do very readily on my own.  However, I love being a second shooter at weddings, and last weekend I was lucky enough to work with a photog friend of mine AND shoot a beautiful ceremony and reception!  Very cool!

Here are some of my favorite images of Jaclyn and Daniel's wedding.  (Scroll down to the end to see the wedding slideshow).  For my friend Michelle (Michelle Eddy Photography) -- thank you so much for asking me to help photograph this wedding.  We always work well together and have fun doing what we both love to do!  Jaclyn and Daniel -- thank you both for including me in your special day.  I wish you much love and happiness in your new life together!
